This concept by Mercedes-Benz is supposed to represent the future of Mercedes’ electric car division to fight Tesla Motors. “Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche insisted the fully scalable powertrains and architectures inside the Generation EQ would give his company a battery-electric family of an SUV, a sedan, a wagon, a coupe, two- and four-seat convertibles and more...All of them will sit beneath a new Daimler sub-brand, dubbed EQ , using lithium-ion battery packs developed and made by its subsidiary Deutsche Accumotive...The concept car sits atop a 70-kWh battery pack and its two electric motors produce up to 402 hp of power and 516 lb-ft of torque, good enough for hit 62 mph from a dead stop in less than five seconds. Even with that much performance potential from hosting an electric motor on each axle, Benz says the car is capable of eking out around 311 of range from a single full charge. (This is on European testing, US EPA range estimates are typically lower.)” !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! This link will give you the full story on this concept.
What are your thoughts on the Generation EQ Concept, and the new EQ sub-brand? I think I like it!

Very 2004. Reminds me of all those computer cases with the blue glowy bits and plastic pieces that look like they should light up but fucking don’t. Dat rear tail-light strip...
It’s okay. I’m pretty ambivalent toward the exterior, the interior I have some words for: stop with LCD screens. If I am going to pay the ungodly amount of money Mercedes asks for their cars, I want you motherfuckers to spend the effort to craft me some fine-ass mechanical dials. I don’t want to stare at a lifeless glass slab.

I’m liking your Mercedes vision! That sounds like the ideal Mercedes!

Bentley gets it:
I also really don’t like all this fancy lighting. It’s so phony. I like solid, well-constructed. Like, the well-worn and robust aesthetic of Star Wars - Episode IV versus the flashy and fragile feel of Star Trek: The Next Generation . An E-11 blaster that I can club somebody with instead of a phaser rifle that will actually snap in half doing the same.

Eh. They coulda at least made it look remotely like it could actually happen. Also that grille is hideous.

Meh. Making a new sub-brand is stupid.

eh... it’s going to have to grow on me. Right now, it looks like many other current midsized CUVs with a shiny blue grill.

Looks like a GLC with wheels, lights and interior that they never intend to build in production anyway. So yeah,
New power train is cool, but no surprises other than that.

Design wise it has to be the laziest concept car I’ve ever seen. Under the fancy LEDs I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s literally a GLC body.

Yeah, especially Mercedes. Don’t they have enough sub-brands already?

Kind of. Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach, and then smart if you want to count that. They should really just use regular old Benz for the electric stuff, it’s got the technical reputation and prestige to handle what they need, and won’t confuse customers.

That sounds like a good solution to the expanding brand issue Mercedes has.

Unfortunately ze Germans give no shits about what us plain old wrenches have to say when it comes to marketing. Some of us are good at fixing things that aren’t mechanical too.
